Most architecture firms running AI tools today send project data to a cloud service to process it. The HP ZBook Ultra G3a, announced at Autodesk University this morning, is built for running AI locally instead. Its processor combines CPU, graphics, and AI acceleration on one chip that shares up to 192 GB of memory, enough for HP to claim the machine can handle AI models of up to 300 billion parameters without a cloud connection. HP partnered with Perplexity to pre-load tools for code compliance, design review, and material specification research that run inside Windows alongside Revit. The integrated graphics won't match a dedicated Nvidia GPU for real-time rendering workloads, and the memory is soldered in at purchase, so getting the configuration right from day one carries more weight than it usually would.

Junior architects are the most capable AI users at most practices, Stephen Drew argues

Writing in the Architects' Journal, recruiter Stephen Drew argues that junior architects are the staff most likely to move quickly as AI tools improve, and that practices cutting back on entry-level hiring are losing that capacity. Drew frames the argument around capability, not sentiment: AI is advancing fast, and younger staff tend to adapt to new tools sooner.

HP's SitePrint robot now reroutes itself around site obstacles without operator input

HP announced updates to SitePrint and its Build Workspace drawing platform at Autodesk University today. SitePrint robots now detect unexpected obstacles on site (materials, equipment, temporary works) and reroute automatically. Build Workspace gained automatic revision flagging and an AI tool that converts scanned drawings into editable CAD files, reading the scale directly from any scale marker printed on the sheet.
